Baseball: Freshman Jagger Rusconi of West Ranch is impact player

It's a little early to declare infielder Jagger Rusconi of West Ranch the best freshman in the region, but he certainly is making an impact.

As the leadoff hitter, he's batting .323 for the 6-1-1 Wildcats. Coach Casey Burrill has never had a freshman bat so high in the lineup, and Rusconi is delivering. He's also a switch hitter.

He leads the team in runs scored and is already considered the fastest player on the team.

"He is mature beyond his years," Burrill said.

He's starting at second base but figures to move to shortstop in the coming years.

And he certainly has a first name that gets him attention.
